Mr. Berry is a son of Mr. and Mrs, M. R. Berry and a grandson of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Lampton of Columbia. He did preparatory work with Webb school at Bell Buckle, Tenn., received a bachelor's degree at Ole Miss and the M. A. degree at the University of Illinois, 1931-'32, where he specialized in international, law and relations. He completed work for the Ph. D. degree at Yale In January.

New Orleans, March 12 ‎(A/P)‎ Lampton Berry, a native of Mississippi and former diplomatic attache to India, was honeymooning over the week-end in New Orleans with his bride whom he met four years ago when he was first sent to India. Son of Mr. and Mrs. M. R. Berry of Columbia, Miss., he served as secretary to the personal representative of the president to India, for three years, returning to thé United States last year to attend the Army and Navy staff college. His wife, the former Miss Angela Ogilvie, daughter of a British civil service employee in New Delhi, India, arrived in this country only recently. They were married March 8 at Columbia. They expected to leave today for Washington, where Berry will be assigned to the State Department office.

WASHINGTON ‎(AP)‎ — Career diplomat Lampton Berry of Columbia, Miss., will be U.S. ambassador to Ceylon. President Eisenhower appointed Berry Friday to succeed Maxwell H. Gluck, who resigned. Berry presently is deputy assistant secretary of state for Near Eastern and South Asian affairs. Berry has held diplomatic assignments in Capetown, South Africa and New Delhi and Calcutta, India, The ambassadorial appointment, Berry's first, is subject to Senate approval when Congress convenes in January.
