  Text: LAFAYETTE Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, at a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Wisdom Catholic Church for Gen Billeaud Gidiere, 93, the former Genevieve McNaspy, who died at 9:20 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, at her residence in Lafayette.

Entombment will be in the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.

The Rev. F. Hampton Davis, Notre Dame Seminary of New Orleans, will be the celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Concelebrant will be the Rev. Chester Arceneaux, pastor of Our Lady of Wisdom Catholic Church. Violinist, Tommy Benoit, will play for the services, "Ave Maria", Here I Am, Lord and How Great Thou Art.

Survivors include many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, C. J. and Ida Castille McNaspy; one sister, Katherine; one brother, C. W. McNaspy Jr.; her first husband, Lionel J. "Pipp" Billeaud; and her second husband, John J. Gidiere.

A native and lifelong resident of Lafayette, Gen was Executive Secretary to Thomas Arceneaux, Dean of the Agriculture Department at SLI for 25 years.

She was keenly involved in many community activities, including Vingt Quatre, Lafayette Museum Association, Community Concert Association, Church Functions and Charity League of Lafayette. Gen was a member of the Petroleum Club, an avid bridge player and inspired the naming of Lafayette Junior League's Talk About Good Cookbook.

She established the Lionel J. Billeaud Endowed Professorship for the School of Music at USL and has been distinguished for ongoing contributions to the fund. Gen was a noted authority on landscaping and flowers, being responsible for creating the bicential gardens, flower beds and walkways at the Lafayette Museum and continued to donate to their renewal. The gardens were dedicated to her at a special ceremony.

A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. tonight in the Martin & Castille Funeral Home.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. Saturday until time of services.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Gidiere's name to the Lafayette Museum, 1122 Lafayette Street, Lafayette, LA 70501 or to the Lionel J. Billeaud and Gen Gidiere USL Professorship School of Music, 705 E. St. Mary Blvd., Lafayette, LA 70503.

Pallbearers will be Davis Trousdale, Stephen Creed, Rodney Coco, Curtis Creed, Alfred Brown Jr. and Christy Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be Chad Foster, Patch Foster, Clem Kennington and Ariel Bellman.
